Manchester United are juggling a number of injury problems at the moment, an issue that has blighted their progress under Erik ten Hag this season.
United have lost five of their 12 Premier League games played in 2023/24, and three out of four in their UEFA Champions League campaign, making for a rocky few months and bringing plenty of pressure on Ten Hag.
The likes of Luke Shaw, Tyrell Malacia, Raphael Varane, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Casemiro and Lisandro Martinez have all spent long periods on the sidelines this season. New signing Rasmus Hojlund also struggled with a back issue following his arrival from Atalanta, while young prospects such as Kobbie Mainoo and Amad Diallo are yet to feature for the first team following injuries in preseason. lol646
But how is United’s injury situation looking at the moment? The Sporting News details all the latest news, who is set to return soon and the likely lineup for the club’s next fixture after the international break, which is against Everton in the Premier League on Sunday, November 26.
Man United latest team news, injuries
Lisandro Martinez (foot injury) and Casemiro (hamstring) are both out long-term, with Ten Hag recently saying he doesn’t expect either to feature in any competitive action until after Christmas.
Left-backs Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia have both been out since August, the former with a muscular problem, but there is some light at the end of the tunnel.
Widespread reports on November 20 suggested they are both back in training. ESPN claimed Shaw and Malacia are both ‘nearing’ comebacks and could be fit enough to play in the next game.
Amad Diallo is the club’s other long-term injury worry; he’s been out since the start of the season with a knee problem but could also return soon. Kobbie Mainoo was also injured in preseason but has made United’s past three Premier League matchday squads.
In terms of more recent injuries, Rasmus Hojlund and Christian Eriksen were both ruled out of Denmark’s international commitments this week. Hojlund suffered a hamstring issue in United’s 1-0 win over Luton Town before the break, while Eriksen also hobbled off in that match with a knock to the knee. Reports suggest neither will recover in time to face Everton.
Andre Onana is United’s main other injury concern as they prepare to return to Premier League action. The goalkeeper suffered a problem with his lower back while playing for Cameroon against Mauritius and was ruled out of his country’s clash with Libya.
Concerns over Marcus Rashford‘s wellbeing after he took a whack in England’s win over Malta have been played down, while Jonny Evans looks set to be the only other absence when United’s squad reconvene. Aaron Wan-Bissaka should be back after suffering illness.
Man United predicted lineup vs Everton
If Shaw is fully fit, he’ll surely be thrown straight into Ten Hag’s lineup for the Premier League game away at Everton on November 26. Diogo Dalot could switch back to right-back, depending on whether Wan-Bissaka is ready to start again. Another option could be to start both Shaw and Malacia, with the former playing as a left-sided centre-back in Martinez’s absence.
With Onana a doubt, summer signing Altay Bayindir could make his United debut. The former Fenerbahce goalkeeper is a Turkiye international but is yet to feature for his new club after a £4.3 million ($5.4 million) transfer to Old Trafford. United will be anxious over Onana’s fitness as their certified No.1 in goal, particularly has he has recently rediscovered some form after a difficult start to his time in England.
Ten Hag has struggled to get the midfield balance right this season, but it’ll likely be a straight decision between Mason Mount and Sofyan Amrabat to partner Scott McTominay, with Eriksen injured and Casemiro still unavailable.
Hojlund’s injury could make room for both Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho in the front line at Goodison Park. Anthony Martial is not a favoured option for Ten Hag.
Man United projected lineup (4-2-3-1, left to right): Onana (GK) — Dalot, Maguire, Lindelof, Shaw — McTominay, Mount — Antony, Fernandes, Garnacho — Rashford. Lodi646 app
